5 Qualities You Need to Be a Successful Real Estate Agent

Wow, the title of this blog sounds more like a promo for a reality show. And whilst you're not desperately hoping to receive a rose after a drama-filled cocktail party, the real estate industry still carries tough competition.

Here’s a look at the most important traits you’ll need to become a successful real estate agent.

1. Determination

It's obvious isn't it? As a real estate agent every listing is important. Every client is priority. And as the client's representative, you must be driven to win, no matter the obstacles - that of course requires great determination to succeed.

2. The Ability to Negotiate

Do you have the gift of the gab? Can you sell ice to eskimos?

A big part of being a successful sales person requires negotiation skills.

Negotiation is important in real estate as it determines your success with at least 3 things:

  • The listing price
  • The selling price
  • Your commission

3. Tech Savviness

Get. With. The. Times. 👏🏼

Within almost all professions, you need to know your way around digital platforms. Being able to navigate social media, CRM, and automation systems require tech savviness and a willingness to learn. Otherwise, be prepared to be outdone by tech savvy competition.

4. The Ability to Network

Real estate is all about who you know and who knows you. Unfortunately the ability to network isn’t optional - it’s a required skill.

If you need to brush up on your networking skills, here are few tips to keep in mind:

  • Arrive early to networking events
  • Be pleasant
  • Be passionate
  • Follow up

5. Strong Communication Skills

Hopefully, you like the sound of your own voice because you’re going to be hearing it a lot.

As a real estate agent, you’ll spend a lot of your time speaking to people. Whether you’re speaking to clients, engaging with fellow agents, or building a network with other professionals, you’ll do a lot of talking.

Here are a few tips to build or improve your communication:

  • Be a good listener
  • Ask questions
  • Make eye contact
